It’s that time in America again…Election Day is almost here. Typically it’s a time for expressing disappointment with what has been. We’re reminded that things are just not right. In fact, they are just the opposite of what should be.
The fool will no more be called noble, nor the scoundrel said to be honorable (Isa. 32:5)
The words of Isaiah 32:5 seem to reflect the experience that we have in America. Today the “fool” is called “noble”. The word “fool” refers to one who is morally obtuse—lacking moral sense and any kind of genuine spiritual obligation. The word translated “scoundrel” is only found here and refers to one who has a drive for self-advantage and will gladly deceive anyone in order to achieve it. What is happening today (and not only here in America) is that fools are referred to as noble and scoundrels are thought to be honorable. The Democrat platform is one that celebrates and pursues every kind of unthinkable moral debauchery. The Republican Party is largely filled with spineless hypocrites. Every Election Day is a reminder of this.
But listen…it’s not always going to be like this. There is a day coming when “a king will reign in righteousness” (Isa. 32:1). When He comes that will be the end of “noble” fools and “honorable” scoundrels. Oh that the Lord would grant us people who long for genuinely noble and honorable leaders. May we vote tomorrow with an eye to that coming Day. Until that may God have mercy.
